Arc, Match Properties, Layers, Rotate, Drawing, Fillet, Offset, Extend, Trim Commands and also Make View Setup





1.                  MVSETUP

Command Name
Short Cut
Location of the Command
Mvsetup
Mvsetup Enter
Type in command bar

a.                   Meanings
This is another command, which is use for the sheet setting. We can consider it as short cut of sheet setting.

b.                  Syntax
Type “mvsetup” in command bar and press enter
Message 1 “Enable paper space? [No/Yes] :”
Type “N” and press enter
Message 2 “Enter units type [Scientific / Decimal / Engineering / Architectural / Metric]:”
Type “A” and press enter
Massage 3 “Enter the scale factor:”
Type “96” and press enter
Message 4 “Enter the paper width:”
Type 100’, 200’, 300’ etc, as much width is required to you and press enter
Message 5 “Enter the paper height:”
Type 100’, 200’, 300’ etc, as much height is required to you and press enter

2.                  Trim Command

a.                   Meanings
This command is used to cut / trim a line / lines from a crossed point. It is modify menu command and its short cut is “tr”. This command is used in three ways.
(1)               Single Click Use
(2)               Double Click Use
(3)               Double Click and F use

(1)               Single Click Syntax
Type “tr” short cut in command bar and press enter
Select an opposite line that crossed a line you want to cut / trim and press enter
Click on the line / lines you want to cut / trim

(2)               Double Click Syntax
Type “tr” short cut in command bar and press enter twice
It will auto cut / trim any lines you will click on
In this way one can freely / without selecting the target, can cut / trim as many lines as he / she wants



(3)               Double Click & F Syntax
Type “Tr” short cut in command bar, press enter twice, type “F” (Fast), and press enter
The control or pointer / cursor will make a doted line where you will drag your control or pointer / cursor. The lines that will come into the doted line / box / windows will be cut / trimmed.

3.                  Extend Command

a.                   Meanings
This command is used to extend a line / lines upto a specific target; to make a line continued line, instead of many joints / breakings in the lines. This is modify menu command and “ex” is its short cut. There are two ways to extend a line / lines.
(1)               Single Click Use
(2)               Double Click Use

(1)               Single Click Syntax
Type “ex” short cut in command bar and press enter
Select target line up to that you want to extend a specific line / lines and press enter
Click on a line / lines you want to extend

(2)               Double Click Use
Type “ex” short cut in the command bar and press enter twice
Click time and time again on a line you want to extend time and time again

4.                  F3 (osnap off / osnap on)
This command is used to hide / appear start, mid and ending points of an object / line.

a.                   Meanings
This command is used to place a copy of a line on a specific distance at the side of certain line. It is Modify Menu command and its short cut is “O”.

b.                  Syntax
Type “O” and press enter
Message 1 “Specify offset distance”
Type distance you need like 9, 1’ or 20’
Click on the line you want to offset
Click to the direction you want offset to placed

2.                  Fillet Command

F Enter

a.                   Meanings
This command is used to joint the end of two different angles line and it trim or extend the lines automatically incase if the lines are short or crossing each other. It is also modify menu command and “F” is the short cut of this command.

b.                  Radius
Before one might use this command, he/she must know the radius. If one desires to join the two opposite lines on the 90 degree angle than the radius must be always zero incase the radius is not zero the lines will take curve from the joining point.

c.                   Syntax
Type “F” in command bar
Message will appear
Type “R” and give the desired radius, which is mostly zero
Than click on the firs line, you want to fillet and than on opposite line you want to fillet






1.                   Drawing
Drawing is of two types
a.                  Presentation Drawing
b.                 Submission Drawing

a.                  Presentation Drawing
This drawing is prepared for a client. It is mostly formatted with single line sketch. This is drawing mostly does not fallow any rules etc.

b.                 Submission Drawing
This drawing is properly formatted according to some certain state, city rules and regulations. It has complete and full details of every thing that might be constructed.

2.                   Copy Command

a.                  Meanings
This command is used to make copy of any object. It is edit menu command and it has two short cuts. “Co” and “Cp”.

b.                 Syntax
Type “Co” or “Cp” and press enter
Select the object and press enter
Drag the selected object and press left click to past the object

c.                  Multiple Copy
In Auto CAD 2004 there is a multiple coping option, which can be activated only by pressing “M” after activation of copy command but in 2006 by default this command is activated and when copy command is used it automatically copy time and time again the source object.

3.                   Rotate

a.                  Meanings
This command is use to rotate an object. It is modify menu command and its short cut is “Ro”.

b.                 Syntax
Type “Ro” and press enter
Select the object and press enter
Drag the mouse to rotate the object and press left click to fix a rotation



4.                   Class & Home Assignment
Draw a room of 10’ x 10’ measurement, place a door and window in it.
Use all the commands studied till now.

a.                  Meanings
This command is used to change the format of an object. It has two purposes one to make an object different from another object. Second it is used to hide and show a specific object in the drawing. It is Format menu command and “La” is its short cut.

b.                 Syntax
Type “La” in command bar and press enter
Layer Property Manager Window will open
Click on new tool for new layer
One can go to another new layer by pressing comma (‘)
Press OK when layers are created

2.                  OSNAP

Command Name

OSNAP
OS Enter
Tools Menu

a.                  Meanings
This command is used to show the start, end and mid point of a line. F3 is used to on and off this option. “OS” is short cut used to see the OSNAP window.

b.                 Syntax
Type “OS” in command bar and press enter
OSNAP window will open
Select an option you required to have

3.                  Match Properties Command

MA Enter
Modify Menu

a.                  Meanings
This command is used to give the same format that a line has to another line / lines. “Ma” is its short cut.

b.                 Syntax
Type “Ma” in the command bar and press enter
Press left click on the formatted line
The control shape will change into a brush
Click that brush on the line / lines you want to give format



4.                  Arc Command

Draw Menu

1.                 Meanings
This command is use to draw an arc, which is helpful for the drawing of doors especially. “A” is its short cut.

2.                 Syntax
Type “A” in the command bar and press enter
Press right click on the starting point than mid and finally end point
